Happy First Birthday, PASSNYC!

Last month was the one year anniversary of PASSNYC! We’re taking a moment to reflect on our origins and what we’ve accomplished so far:

We’ve met with dozens of teachers, administrators, parents, students, service providers, community organizations and NYC government officials that share our mission. Along the way, we signed partnerships with 15 incredible organizations.

With our partners at TestPrepSHSAT.com, we launched a free subscription for online SHSAT prep, including 12 timed tests with automatic scoring and analytics.

Based on feedback from District 4 and District 5 middle schools, we created the PASSNYC SHSAT Student Handbook Guide and our outreach team distributed it in 4 schools. In PS161, a PreK-8 neighborhood school in District 5, our outreach efforts coincided with a 222% increase in SHSAT registrations vs. 2014!

Our research team combed through and organized data from several sources to create the PASSNYC School Explorer, the most comprehensive source of information on 1,270 elementary and middle schools in NYC.

On the heels of a recently published national study on student performance and family income, we dug into student testing data to look at the correlation between Math and ELA scores and school “wealth” in NYC public schools—and published 2 infographics!

We’ve grown our team to over 30 committed, talented volunteers. We’re particularly proud that Hunter College President Jennifer Raab volunteered to chair our Advisory Board.

And, we officially received 501(c)(3) status on March 18th, 2016!

What’s next for us?

We have big ambitious plans for the rest of the year! We’ll be hosting our first Collective Impact Forum in June. Get in touch here to get involved or meet us at our PASSNYC One Year Anniversary Happy Hour & Benefit on Wednesday May 18th:
