New Yorkers deserve a better class of real estate.
NYC real estate, like every other segregated American city, is systematically overestimating the risks associated with select land parcels, buildings, and loans because of racism. We need a new way to align financial interests behind dismantling the architecture of segregation and empowering Black communities through ownership.
How many times have you been handed keys? Why do so many get so few?
“Today’s residential segregation… is not the unintended consequence of individual choices and of otherwise well-meaning law or regulation, but of unhidden public policy that explicitly segregated every metropolitan area in the United States.”
“We have created a caste system in this country, with African Americans kept exploited and geographically separate by racially explicit government policies… Although most of these policies are now off the books, they have never been remedied.”
“The policy was so systematic and forceful that its effects endure to the present time.”
Richard Rothstein, The Color of Law
What if the keys to home ownership and small business capital were equitably shared? What if the fight against segregation included a new instrument for both real estate and debt?
We must address disproportionality directly. Restorative Real Estate™ advisory services unlock restorative justice through the remediation of de jure segregation. We will improve racial equality through black ownership and increase the creditworthiness of existing residents to generate a system for more equitable economic growth within target communities.
