PASSNYC wins Big Apps Knowledge Category
/In June 2017, PASSNYC beat out 150 other applicants to take home the $30K Grand Prize at NYC BigApps, a prestigious CivicTech competition for data and technology solutions that can improve the quality of life for New York City youth, seniors, and immigrants.
We entered the competition with the idea of building a virtual guidance counselor for students in NYC to find and apply for extracurricular activities: The PASSNYC Opportunity Explorer.
Grand Prize winners will receive over $30,000 worth of cash and in-kind prizes, which include $15,000 in cash, admission into Civic Hall Labs' accelerator program, pro bono legal services from BakerHostetler, and discounted courses and workshops from General Assembly.
The Judges Award winner will have the opportunity to pilot their app on LinkNYC tablets throughout the five boroughs.
Here’s Miguel Gamino, Chief Technology Officer of NYC, presenting us with the Grand Prize:
With the help of our partners, we’re hard at work building the Opportunity Explorer and can’t wait to share it with you!
